The Story of Silverbacks Adventures
Dear Travelers,
My name is Gabriel Ortiz.
My friends call me Bochie, and this is the story behind the birth of Silverbacks Adventures.
Since I was a kid, I have always enjoyed the outdoors, from braving its winding rivers, searching for exotic frogs to climbing trees and riding horses. I spent most of my childhood exploring Guatemala’s rich and neverending wilderness. Be it the tranquility that comes from paddling across the glassy surface of Lake Atitlan, or the exhilarating rush that comes from hiking one of its dormant volcanoes, I am deeply driven to introduce these magical experiences to anyone curious enough to allow me.
Traveling is my other passion, and I’ve been lucky enough to visit several beautiful countries, experience their variety of cultures, and meet some great people along the way. Many of those locals, who I now call friends, have come to Guatemala to grant me the opportunity to show off my own generous, warm, and diverse culture. After guiding these adventurers through Guatemala’s majestic landscapes (the ones that impressed me so much as a child and continue to impress me to this day), each of my visitors has thanked me for an awe-inspiring experience that many of them have called life-changing!
So that’s how Silverbacks Adventures was born, by mixing my passion, love, and respect for nature with my innate desire to explore. This venture has allowed me to fulfill my dream by creating authentic, and transformative journeys that will positively impact you and the communities we visit.
Silverbacks staff and alliances care dearly about Guatemalan communities. We have embarked on social work from our inception, from cleaning up neighborhoods, rivers, beaches, lakes and mountains to donating supplies like desks to local schools.
These are the experiences that make me who I am, and they are the experiences that make me uniquely qualified to guide you through the region I love so much, Guatemala.
